This show was unbelievable and expertly curated. Fabrications such as these in textiles that are an offset of the human body always blow me away. An exciting and inspiring day with two of my favourite people. GUO PEI: COUTURE BEYOND
Aileen Penner - The Promise of Something Grand - Xchanges Gallery
Xchanges Gallery, Victoria B.C. - October 4-21, 2018
The Promise of Something Grand is a title that has stuck with me since I’ve seen this show. In this work, Aileen Penner created beautiful cyanotypes that explores her and her parent’s lives in Church Falls, Labrador, a remote industrial mega project. Her father, an Engineer, died during a work accident which the “company” refused to pay. Her mother fought an extraordinary battle against the company and eventually won. The show also brought light on the parallels of environmental resource destruction and the affect on lives in other countries.

Kehinde Wiley - A New Republic - Seattle Art Museum
When I first saw Kehinde Wiley’s work in a newspaper article, I excitedly brought the clipping to my son Dexter. A few years later we visited the much anticipated show at SAM for Dexter’s graduation trip.
Incredible paintings in scope and scale as well as beautiful sculpture. This exhibit was a show of a lifetime.
