Artist Talk - A Thousand Times Light

An Artist Talk on the Process of my pieces in the Gibsons Public Art Gallery on the last day of the show

Simple, exquisite materials, metal and light. The beautiful rawness of brass, copper, aluminum and steel. Precious metals that are made more so as they are marked and drawn upon. Pierced, altered, cherished, cut, pondered, textured, polished and revealed.

Custom LED light loops that fade from day to night.

This series explores transformation, our ability to experience life events, from amazing to devastating. How we choose to allow them to mark us, with grace and light, or not, or somewhere in the middle. How spaciousness, people, new adventures, mysteries of unexplored stillness and these markings can lead to a complete 360 change in our perceptions... full circle.

Coast Modern Design Exhibition

This lively exhibition will focus on product, textile and graphic design.

From minimalist to functional, technological, serious or playful, our collective work addresses design in as much diversity as our individual viewpoints of our coastal habitat. The unifying factors amongst this group is our modern esthetic, insatiable curiosity to explore new materials and methodologies and the need to problem solve. We all have client based work as well as self produced side projects which keeps us on our toes.

It is important to note that we seek to exhibit a selection of modern design within our group. We are not representing all design or modern design in it’s entirety in this region”.

Shinrin-Yoku (Forest Bathing) + Memory Blocks

I was first inspired to create an art series about Shinrin-yoku after reading an article in the Globe and Mail in October, 2010.

It seemed clear, FOREST BATHING could be a great fit for our community– it is good for the mind, good for the body, good for the health care system, good for local business, good for the economy and good for the forests by turning more areas into Parks.

If we started designating ourselves as a Shinrin-ryoho, (forest therapy) site, could we offset or even surpass the 1.2 million dollars per cut block not sold?

Ask your doctor to prescribe Shinrin-yoku today!
